Our Story
“As I walked around, I began to feel a connection with the lumber that was used to construct the hotel. Seeing all the intricate designs and craftsmanship done by the skilled workers made me appreciate it even more. I learned that Douglas fir wood was used in the construction, and it made me realize the importance of upcycling this valuable material and keeping it out of landfills, especially in a city like Vancouver with the highest demolition of homes.”

ABOUT US
Our Purpose and Inspiration
The inspiration behind our work came from an appreciation and desire to conserve the stories embedded in building heritage and our concerns over the environmental costs of traditional demolition. In search for solutions while recognising the need to provide new housing, we found a promising option in deconstruction — a method that recovers what can be reused, reduces the waste, values each material and enables resources to be returned to our building ecosystem. We strive to facilitate and support a circular construction market, in particular raising awareness over the value of reclaimed old-growth timber which carries superior strength, durability and aesthetic qualities. This dedication led to the founding of VEMA Deconstruction, where we now provide a sustainable alternative to building demolition that creates shared values for the environment, homeowners, our community, and preserves valuable resources for generations to come.
